MLB Betting – What To Look For In A Strong Reliever

You may hear in a baseball blog that a team is being let down by their bullpen, which is the group of pitchers that come into the game when the starter is done for the night, either due a pitch count or ineffectiveness. A team with a shaky bullpen can be easy to pass up when you’re making a few MLB picks, and here is what you should look for in a solid reliever

ERA

A sportsbook review would probably recommend ERA (or earned-run average) for all pitchers, and it’s defined as the number of earned runs a pitcher allows divided by the number of innings pitched. However, it’s especially important for a reliever, who won’t usually stay in a game that long, so the amount of runs they gave up is magnified.

Holds

Holds is a relatively new statistic thanks to the sabermetric era, and it’s basically pertains to a pitcher that isn’t eligible for a win, records an out, and maintains a lead of no more than three runs for at least an inning. There are other ways to define it, so check to see what your sportsbook defines as a hold, but a reliever with a lot of them is a pitcher that doesn’t relinquish leads when they enter the game.

Blown Saves

These are the closers you want to stay away from as there is nothing more aggravating in baseball when a closer can’t finish off a team in the ninth inning. A team that can’t shut it down in the final inning is definitely a team you want to avoid in your sport betting book.

MLB Fantasy – How To Predict A Pitcher’s Poor Form

Your baseball blog is starting to heat up as the regular season is underway and teams are shaking off the rust, and like any position, pitchers are doing the same as they try to get loose. Can you predict when a pitcher is going to have a bad year? Here are a few things to look for.

Whether you’re looking at sports betting sites or your fantasy team, you must have the ability to gauge a pitcher’s chance for success in a season and you have to check for a few factors. Maybe they’re switching leagues, from the National to the American (which has stronger hitting) and a pitcher that is used to one league could take a while to get used to their surroundings.

Injury also plays a big role, and it can be a pitcher who is coming off an injury-plagued season and it will take a while to not only get the rust off, but to feel confident that you can pitch without suffering another injury (or aggravating the old injury). A pitcher could get hurt in spring training and that throws off the way they get ready for the season. Like goaltenders in hockey, pitchers are creatures of habit and an injury could change how they prepare for the season.

In the post-steroid era, pitchers have become more important than ever and some can change the way you look at a team, so do your homework before heading to your online sportsbook.

MLB Betting – Do Spring Training Injuries Affect World Series Futures?

Your favorite MLB blog is getting you ready for the regular season and they have probably been keeping track of what is going on in spring training, which doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but how much of a factor is a spring-training injury?

It really all depends on the type of injury that a player gets in spring training, no matter how big or small. Some players will get a major injury, like a torn ACL or an elbow that requires Tommy John surgery, and that is obviously going to affect the way you should be betting on baseball.

But it doesn’t have to be an injury that needs surgery, but it can be something as seemingly minor as a hamstring that will nag a player throughout a season. The Major League Baseball season is 162 games long and goes from April to October, and some injuries never fully heal, especially if you try to keep giving it a go. Then again, if you miss, for example, two weeks, you could be missing up to 10 or 12 games in that span, while in other sports, you’ll be missing half that many.

Injuries are always going to have a role in sports betting, and while spring-training records don’t matter, getting through it with a clean bill of health does matter and you should keep an eye on the injury report before making your pick at sports betting sites.

World Series Odds – What To Look For In This Season’s Futures

March Madness brackets are all but busted after a wild first weekend in the Tournament, but the Major League Baseball season is on the horizon as spring training is well underway and it’s time to start thinking about World Series odds. What should you be thinking about as you’re scouring over this season’s lines for the Fall Classic.

Where Did The Big Free Agents Land?

This past offseason was one of the biggest in free-agent history, as Albert Pujols left St. Louis for the Los Angeles Angels and was joined by C.J. Wilson, who will be up against his former team from Texas; the Rangers picked up Yu Darvish, who has already raised some eyebrows; Detroit picked up Prince Fielder and may have the most powerful duo in baseball alongside Miguel Cabrera. All these moves made a huge ripple effect in the lines, so take that into account.

Pitching May Trump Hitting Now

You ask any March Madness betting capper and they’ll tell you that defense wins championships; in a one-on-one matchup, you have to take pitching every time over hitting. St. Louis was two spots lower than Texas in runs scored and allowed last season, but the Rangers scored almost 100 runs more, but the Cardinals allowed 15 less. You have to remember the World Series comes down to matchups, so that has to factor in your pick.

It’s A Very Small Pool

There aren’t a lot of contenders in baseball, so don’t waste a lot of time on the teams that don’t have a chance. Even St. Louis, while a longshot, had a few great players and a future Hall of Famer in Pujols. That way, you can focus more time on the real contenders in your favorite sportsbooks.
